DC Council approves 'emergency' bill to rename Columbus Day 'Indigenous Peoples' Day'
Thursday, 10 October 2019 () Washington, D.C. city council members rushed to approve legislation renaming Columbus Day "Indigenous Peoples' Day" this week before its Oct. 14 commemoration, citing similar moves by several states and a slew of cities in recent years.
Representatives of multiple organizations from the Dallas Native American Community plan on attending Tuesday's meeting, where council members will consider a resolution recognizing the second Monday in October as Indigenous Peoples' Day.
