*How did you get your start in entrepreneurship?*
SB: I became an entrepreneur at a very young age. At just 18 years old, I got into the real estate industry and by 21, I had built my first home, a 6,000 square foot, custom home development. Next, I got into the hotel industry, one of my very first projects was the Adobe Grand Villas, a four-diamond award winning, luxury resort hotel in Sedona Arizona. I am still very involved in my real estate business but I guess you could say I've always been into fitness and had a curious mind and an entrepreneurial spirit.
*How did you get the idea for the EdgeCross-X?*
SB: We wanted to create something that would challenge every muscle group in the body and could be done entirely from home in a very short amount of time. The equipment itself is incredibly lightweight and compact, meaning it can easily be stored in one's home, brought to a gym session, or even taken on the road.
However, even though it is light and portable, it provides a killer workout. Every single muscle of the body is challenged, and the abdominals and core are positively blasted.
*How exactly does it work?*
MI: The heart of the equipment consists of 4 components, the main EdgeCross-X unit with adjustable handles and ends, the balance wheel, stability blocks and resistance bands, all with a goal of putting your body off-balance. When you are off-balance, your body will automatically engage the core muscles along with every muscle in the body to maintain stability. The longer you hold a position, the harder your muscles will have to work, providing the most effective and efficient workout possible, quickly giving you incredible results. Suddenly, a simple movement or push-up is targeting the core and muscles you probably didn't even know you had.
*Can any fitness level use it?*
SB: We were recently very honored to be named by the LA times as The Top Cutting-Edge Fitness Gear in 2020. After this happened, word spread, our equipment is now being used by IronMan and top Olympic level athletes around the world. While the equipment is set up to challenge even the top athletes, we have workouts, modifications and adaptations that are perfect for every fitness level and will work for someone just starting their fitness journey. That is the beauty of it, you won't outgrow the system, you can always find new ways to challenge yourself and continuously improve your physique.
*What has been your experience being in business as a couple?*
MI: It's been a wonderful opportunity, in addition to the two of us, all four of our sons are also involved in the business. Kyle, our middle son, was involved from the very beginning in developing the product, and more recently our other middle son Cody, has started helping out with the architectural side of things. Our eldest son, Ryan, has an accounting degree and is our CFO, and even our youngest son, Rodrigo, at just 19 is helping with our educational and training videos.
It's not always easy working as a family, but we try to make sure that everyone's voice is heard and that everyone feels respected and valued. We've found that by giving everyone clearly defined roles, it is much easier to navigate.
*Did you have any difficulty starting the business during COVID?*
SB: In the early days, we had some difficulty with manufacturing and experienced significant delays as a result, this was certainly frustrating when we sold out of stock and then were subsequently back-ordered for months, but we figured that out and have improved systems in place now.
*What can we expect from you in 2021?*
SB: 2020 was a huge year for us, and we're looking forward to 2021 being even bigger! We are excited to transform the lives and physiques of users all around the world and continue to improve our abilities to work together as a family.
