National Harbor, Md. (PRWEB) September 21, 2016

William A. Davidson Jr., former senior career civilian adviser at the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force, was honored Tuesday for his half-decade of service on Civil Air Patrol’s Board of Governors.

Davidson was presented a framed BoG proclamation commemorating his service, most recently as the board’s vice chairman. He joined the BoG in October 2011. His term ends next month.

During his time on the BoG, the board introduced a new governance structure to streamline CAP’s policy- and decision-making processes. The revised structure provided for creation of the CAP Command Council and CAP Senior Advisory Group and revised the selection process for CAP’s commander/chief executive officer.

The Command Council consists of the national commander, national vice commander, national executive officer, the eight region commanders and the 52 wing commanders. The national commander and national vice commander, CAP’s national executive officer, eight region commanders, chief master sergeant and the national inspector general make up the CSAG, with the CAP-U.S. Air Force commander and CAP’s chief operating officer as ex officio nonvoting members.

Before retiring from the Air Force in 2011 he previously served as administrative assistant to the secretary of the Air Force. He was involved in security and investigative programs throughout his military career.

The proclamation presentation occurred at the Air Force Association’s annual Air, Space & Cyber Conference at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center.

Civil Air Patrol, the longtime all-volunteer U.S. Air Force auxiliary, is the newest member of the Air Force’s Total Force, which consists of regular Air Force, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve, along with Air Force retired military and civilian employees. CAP, in its Total Force role, operates a fleet of 550 aircraft and performs about 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and is credited by the AFRCC with saving an average of 78 lives annually. Civil Air Patrol’s 56,000 members nationwide also perform homeland security, disaster relief and drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. Its members additionally play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to more than 24,000 young people currently participating in the CAP cadet program. Performing missions for America for the past 75 years, CAP received the Congressional Gold Medal in 2014 in honor of the heroic efforts of its World War II veterans. CAP also participates in Wreaths Across America, an initiative to remember, honor and teach about the sacrifices of U.S. military veterans. Visit for more information.
