Vatican won't add 'Holy Spouses' feast to universal calendar (Pillar)

Some US bishops asked the Vatican to add the Feast of the Holy Spouses, Mary and Joseph, to the General Roman Calendar on January 23. Cardinal Arthur Roche, prefect of the Dicastery for Divine Worship, informed the US Conference of Catholic Bishops that there are no plans to add the feast of the calendar.

The feast, widely but not universally celebrated, was suppressed in 1961, before the Second Vatican Council. In 1989, the Vatican permitted the Oblates of St. Joseph to celebrate the feast.
