Fifa have announced the results of their annual The Best awards at a star-studded ceremony with the biggest surprise that Luka Modric has beaten Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to the coveted best men’s player title. Modric pipped his former teammate Ronaldo and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah to the award, but the Egyptian forward could console himself with winning the Puskas Award for the best goal of the year.
