Manchester United Sack Jose Mourinho

Manchester United Sack Jose Mourinhoby 👩‍💻 Stephanie Boyd

Jose Mourinho is one of the most celebrated and controversial soccer managers of the modern age. Having helped European sides achieve top flight glory across the years, the football mogul has most recently been tasked to take charge at Manchester United, one of the most prolific award-winning sides on the continent. The English side are multiple-time Premier League champions – however, this past season, it has emerged that something has needed to be done with regard to their future.

The side is, at present, stuck in relative limbo at sixth position in the Premier League, having recently lost 3-1 to Liverpool – who are currently leading the League at the time of writing. After such relative lack of success, a decision has been made for Mourinho to leave the club with immediate effect. At the time of writing, no successor has yet been sourced – though a caretaker manager, who will take charge of the club in the interim, will be installed to guide the players through the next few matches.

In a statement, Manchester United was brief and concise on their monumental decision to remove Mourinho as boss. “A caretaker-manager will be appointed until the end of the season while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager.”

“The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success for the future.”

Naturally, speculation over who will take over at Manchester United is now rife. According to BBC News, there appears to be little to no chance of former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger taking the post – at least as caretaker – while it’s also being suggested that a caretaker will be sought from outside of Old Trafford’s walls.

Despite United still being in the top flight of the Premier League, they have experienced their worst run in the League since 1990. Mourinho has been in charge at the club for two and a half years, falling short of the apparent four-year maximum stint the manager has offered to clubs in the past. The manager’s style has been admired and criticized in equal measure over the years – he famously helped Chelsea in their bid to become one of the most prolific and decorated teams in English football – but at United, there appears to have been a few sticking points along the way. Who’s next for the big job?
