Are Folding Phones Set to Be With Us by the End of the Year?by

The way in which cellphones and smartphones have evolved over the years has been nothing short of astounding – it really isn’t that long ago when we were all carrying around ‘brick’ phones with aerials and the like – and now, we are effectively carrying around supercomputers in our bags and pockets. Phones have changed in terms of size, display, features and functionality as the decades have worn on, but it seems that the next big move could be related to making things even more compact and portable for regular users.

Huawei may not be the biggest name in cellphone tech in the West, but they remain a huge power in the East – and, as such, they have been able to put a fair amount of capital into funding various enhancements and new product lines. Inside speculation from Korean news network ETNews [web link - translated] suggests that the firm may be looking to launch a pioneering folding phone model in the next few months, potentially by the end of the year. The channel is said to have spoken with Huawei insiders directly, and while nothing has been put forward which is concrete from the brand as yet, the media outlet seems keen to suggest that a foldable, bendable phone could be on its way to consumers by November 2018. This, however, may only occur once feedback has been fully collated and analyzed – only then will shoppers be able to pick up and roll up a device to store away on their person.

It’s not the first time that a foldable or rollable phone has been discussed in the media – Samsung have supposedly been looking into the feasibility to bring such tech to the mainstream for years now – meaning that if news regarding Huawei’s latest research and development are to be believed, a landmark foldable handset from the brand could set them up as genuine trailblazers. There are a number of issues that come from devising a device that can be folded – not only the technical and design aspects, but also in terms of marketing. Therefore, if rumors surrounding Huawei are to be believed, it’s hardly surprising that they are keen to focus on receiving feedback before plugging ahead. Does the concept of a foldable phone appeal to you? You might not have too long to wait – if Huawei (supposedly) step up!
