King the Wire Fox Terrier Wins Best in Show at 2019 Westminster Dog Show
Wednesday, 13 February 2019 For the 15th time, a wire fox terrier is top dog at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. King, who hails from Brazil, took home the coveted Best in Show honor Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden in New York City. King nabbed the prize after first being named Terrier Group Champion.
Not only has King’s breed taken home the most titles of any single breed in the show’s history, but terriers overall have dominated the annual show, winning Best in Show 45 times since 1907 — out of a total of 103.
Bono, a Havanese, came in second at the 143rd annual show. Other contenders in the show’s final round included a Sussex spaniel named Bean, a boxer called Wilma, a crowd-favorite longhaired dachshund named Burns, and a bouviers des Flandres called Baby Lars.

In addition to adorable dogs, this year’s show also had a bit of drama. A schipperke named Colton was declared ineligible to compete after it came out that one of his co-owners has co-owned other dogs with the longtime partner of Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show judge Peter Green.
“We do not wish to diminish or detract from this great event, in this amazing venue, on this very special evening, therefore we will not participate in this evening’s Best In Show to avoid any appearance of impropriety,” Colton’s handler, Christa Cook, said in a statement posted to Facebook.
