Washington Post Top Editor Shoots Down Bernie Sanders’ ‘Conspiracy Theory’ About Candidate’s Coverage

Washington Post Top Editor Shoots Down Bernie Sanders’ ‘Conspiracy Theory’ About Candidate’s CoverageWashington Post executive editor did not waste any time in refuting Sen. Bernie Sanders’ claim that the Post covers him differently because it is owned by Jeff Bezos.

In a statement provided to TheWrap, Marty Baron said, “Contrary to the conspiracy theory the senator seems to favor, Jeff Bezos allows our newsroom to operate with full independence, as our reporters and editors can attest.”

The statement came after a Monday campaign speech during which Sanders, running for the Democratic presidential nomination, suggested “the Washington Post, which is owned by Bezos, who owns Amazon, doesn’t write particularly good articles about” him because he often talks about Amazon’s taxes.

Sanders is an independent senator who identifies as a Democratic Socialist. In his statement, Baron noted that the senator is “a member of a large club of politicians — of every ideology — who complain about their coverage.”

Perhaps the most notable member of that club is the man Sanders hopes to square off against in the 2020 election provided they both earn their party’s nominations: President Trump.

Trump criticizes the media frequently and in recent weeks, has even taken to criticizing Fox News, the network that he typically praises and feels most aligned with.
