David E Kelley-Produced Drama ‘The Big Sky’ Picked Up by ABC

ABC has picked up “The Big Sky,” a thriller based on C.J. Box’s Cassie Dewell novel series, which will be produced by David E. Kelley.

The series, which is written and produced by Kelley, comes from A+E Studios in association with 20th Television. Along with Kelley, Ross Fineman and Box will executive produce.

Here is the logline for the series:



In this procedural thriller, private detective Cassie Dewell partners with ex-cop Jenny Hoyt on a search for two sisters who have been kidnapped by a truck driver on a remote highway in Montana. But when they discover that these are not the only girls who have disappeared in the area, they must race against the clock to stop the killer before another woman is taken.

Box has written five novels featuring Cassie Dewell, a former police chief turned private detective. The latest, “The Bitterroots,” was released last August.

“The Big Sky” is not the only Kelley-produced series for Disney. The company’s streaming service, Disney+, has “The Big Shot” from Kelley and “Everybody Loves Raymond” star Brad Garrett. It stars John Stamos as a temperamental college basketball coach who, after getting fired from his job, ends up as a coach and teacher at an elite, girls private high school.

Kelley also was recently showrunner for Audience Network’s “Mr. Mercedes,” but the fate of that series is up in the air following AT&T’s decision to turn the network into an HBO Max promo channel.
