February Cable News Ratings: Fox News Posts Best Primetime Numbers Ever

February cable news ratings are in via Nielsen, and Fox News and CNN both have reasons to celebrate: Fox News delivered its highest primetime ratings ever network history while CNN bested MSNBC in the advertiser-coveted age demographic of 25-54 in total day, dayside and weekends, as well as on Sunday mornings.

Fox News also completed its 44th straight month at the top all of basic cable in total viewership and its 218th month as the most-watched cable news network in total day and primetime. Fox News brought in 2 million viewers in total day and 3.5 million viewers in primetime through the month.

Another February milestone? “The Ingraham Angle,” hosted by Laura Ingraham at 10 p.m. ET, averaged 3.6 million viewers, with 620,000 of them in the 25-54 demo, making her the most-watched female host in cable news history.

All told, Fox News averaged 1.948 million in total-day viewers and 3.528 million primetime viewers. CNN brought in 683,000 average viewers in total-day while MSNBC had 997,000 viewers. In primetime, CNN’s average was 1.046 million and MSNBC’s was 1.783 million. In the 25-54 demo during primetime, Fox News brought in 587,000 viewers, MSNBC brought in 317,000 and CNN had 296,000.

Among average total-day viewers, Fox News had 341,000 in the demo. CNN had 173,000 and MSNBC had 157,000, continuing the pattern wherein MSNBC and CNN fall behind Fox News, but MSNBC pulls ahead in total viewers while CNN pulls ahead in the demo.
