The Rock Won't Be Running for Us President - And He's Got a Fairly Good Reason

The Rock Won't Be Running for Us President - And He's Got a Fairly Good Reasonby 👨‍💻 Graham Pierrepoint

The world of politics and the world of entertainment have wildly intermingled over the years, but this arguably culminated in the election of tycoon Donald Trump to the US Presidency in 2016. Up to this point, Trump was not only known as a multi-faceted businessman, but also the face of reality TV competition ‘The Apprentice’. He had also made a number of big cameos across movies, TV advertising and more besides – with one stint with McDonald’s where The Donald shared airtime with Grimace becoming particularly popular after his inauguration. The point here is – mixing the two worlds is no longer seen as something that’s against the norm – in fact, many have been seeing the potential in raising famous candidates to the ballot in time for the 2020 election.

One name which has done the rounds again and again has been actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, who may well be the busiest man in Hollywood right now – having initially expressed an interest in politics two years ago, many have postulated as to whether or not he will be the ideal candidate for running against Trump in another two years’ time. Certainly, we’ve yet to see a candidate from the rival Democratic Party come forward – and with a taste for popular figures already lingering, it makes on some level to face Trump with another big name who may not necessarily have come from Congress. However, Johnson has sadly put such dreams to bed this week, and it seems it’s as a result of just how busy he actually is.

“Unfortunately, I don’t see it happening in 2020,” the star advised Vanity Fair recently. “It’s a position that requires years of hard work and experience to learn the skills – there’s a lot of ground to cover, and due to my schedule, it’s not possible in 2020. I have so much respect for the position. It’s something that I seriously considered. What I need is time to go out and learn.”

Will Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Run for President in 2020?

Johnson is arguably at the peak of his career and popularity right now, meaning it makes perfect sense that he wants to ride the wave and to fulfil his promises – but the fact that he shows interest and that he wants to make sure he invests enough time in pursuing a political career may suggest we could yet be seeing a Johnson ticket in the decades to come – just not in two years’ time.
