One News Page Staff Friday, 20 July 2018
The Week in News: July 14th - July 20thby 👨‍💻 Graham Pierrepoint

We’re heading towards the end of July now – already – and it’s been another week of highs and lows in the news – and another week of unscripted drama left right and center! Here’s our quick weekly digest on some of the biggest stories that have come our way in the past seven days in case you’ve missed out on anything important!

France Wins the FIFA World Cup
It’s their first World Cup win in twenty years – France last held the World Cup trophy above their heads in 1998, on home soil – and they left Russia this week the worthy winners of what has been a dramatic and shocking tournament! Croatia leave as runners-up, while Belgium, who had been fancied as dark horses to win the whole tournament, come third. England – pun very much intended – are coming home - in respectable fourth place.

Trump Meets Putin – and, Oh Boy
Donald Trump faced the ire of his own countrymen this week as he appeared to outright deny claims of there being evidence of Russian meddling in the 2016 US Presidential Election while sharing a stage with Russian Premier Vladimir Putin. It was the first official and public meeting between the pair – and while Trump backtracked upon his comments, which go against advice made by the three main US government agencies, they were not met with kindness. The President has been effectively accused of treason – and even Fox News, Trump’s preferred media outlet, weren’t pleased with the event.

Comcast Drop Their Fox Bid
Is it all over – at last? One of the highest-profile business tussles of recent years appears to have come to a final head after Comcast, owners of NBCUniversal, announced that they would be removing themselves from the bidding war to claim 21st Century Fox’s entertainment assets in an attempt to focus on pursuing Sky Plc instead. Sky is a UK entertainment and news provider – meaning that they are clearly focused on extending their home entertainment arm – but this news more or less leaves things clear for Disney to take control of Fox in the very near future.

Another 90s Cartoon Gets Rebooted
Yes – it looks like there won’t be many TV shows and movies left which won’t have been rebooted or remade at some point or other – as Nickelodeon announce this week that a new series of Rugrats, an animated favorite from the 90s, alongside a live-action movie, are in the works. Will any of us live long enough to see The Simpsons cancelled and rebooted? Never say never!
