The Week in News: August 4th - August 10thby 👨‍💻 Graham Pierrepoint

Yes – another week has gone by, and here we are again looking back upon seven days of headline-grabbing drama. We’re into the last third of the summer now, and things are heating up on the world stage in a big way across a number of big stories. If there’s a chance you missed anything from the week in news, here’s our rundown of some of the biggest and most interesting stories to have arisen.

What’s Boris Johnson Done Now?
Often seen as the UK equivalent of Donald Trump owing to his uncanny ability to grab headlines in his own indomitable way, former British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has this week caused a considerable stir over a remark he made with regard to the traditional Muslim burka – and while his comments were made in jest, an investigation into his comments is reportedly underway. Prime Minister Theresa May faces a potential backlash over how she reacts – with some British media outlets claiming that this scenario could, perhaps oddly, pave the way for Johnson to succeed her as PM.

No Pooh for China
China can only honor so many foreign films in their theaters per year – and while they may well have met their quota before being asked to host Disney’s Christopher Robin, a live-action take on the tales of Winnie the Pooh, there seems to be an interesting undercurrent to the character in the country. Movements have been made in recent times to seemingly stop comparisons between Pooh and the Chinese President – could the blocking of Christopher Robin be related? The jury is very much out.

North Korea Are Violating UN Pressures
The United Nations has confirmed over the weekend that North Korea is reportedly continuing to pursue nuclear and missile programs despite the raising of sanctions against the state of Pyongyang, according to a six-month report. The news and recommendations come shortly after Kim Jong-Un appeared to pledge via public meeting with US President Donald Trump that the country would look to ceasing their various programs. Will Pyongyang have a change of heart?

More Smash for Nintendo Fans
Fans of Super Smash Bros were this week treated to a bumper reveal trailer for the upcoming Ultimate title, due to be released for the Nintendo Switch console this holiday season. Super Smash Bros Ultimate already boasts over 60 characters – every fighter from each of the games thus far – along with over 100 stages – and new cult favorites such as Castlevania’s Simon Belmont and Donkey Kong’s arch enemy, King K Rool, joining the roster. It’s looking to be the ultimate celebration of a series of games that never ceases to be popular.
