Is Trump Set to Be Impeached - And Does Manafort Hold the Final Play?

Is Trump Set to Be Impeached - And Does Manafort Hold the Final Play?by 👨‍💻 Simon Baxendale

Paul Manafort – who had previously operated as campaign chief for US President Donald Trump’s successful road into the White House – has this past week thrown the latest shocking swerve in the way of what remains one of the most fascinating political stories of the modern age. Trump and his staff remain at the center of Robert Mueller’s investigation into alleged Russian interference with the US General Election of 2016 – and Mueller having recently entered into a plea deal to assist Mueller’s investigation could make things that little bit more interesting.

Manafort had pleaded guilty to two of the criminal charges he was faced with, and is now required to support the Mueller case by supplying certain requested documents as well as to advise upon any criminal activity he engaged in during the time of concern. The Republicans are set to face their latest midterm elections in under two months and, as such, are clinging to their House majority – with this hanging in the balance, as well as the ongoing drama surrounding Trump, Russia and Manafort, a Democrat majority could open major doors towards impeachment of the President.

Concerns over Trump have sprouted up over a number of major issues and moments in the President’s first term thus far, though the ‘Russia issue’ remains the most contentious. Trump himself continued to lambast the Mueller investigation over the weekend via Twitter, apparently defending himself against continued allegations of any Russian instigators being involved in his election. “The illegal Mueller Witch Hunt continues in search of a crime,” he tweeted. “There never was Collusion with Russia, except by the Clinton campaign, so the 17 Angry Democrats are looking at anything they can find. Very unfair and BAD for the country. ALSO, not allowed under the LAW!”

Manafort’s recent move to agree to assist the Mueller investigation has not only reduced his eventual jail time, it has also helped to propel the Russia controversy into new realms – ones which many are keen to see unfold in the coming months. Will this mean that we are only a few months away from finding out the absolute truth behind Trump’s election campaign? What will the midterms do for the Republicans – and will the Democrats take charge to push for impeachment of Trump? Drama ensues – there’s never a dull moment in US politics right now.
