Melinda Dillon, Oscar-Nominated Actress in ‘Close Encounters,’ Dies at 83

Melinda Dillon, who was nominated as Best Supporting Actress for her roles in Steven Spielberg’s “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” and Sydney Pollack’s “Absence of Malice,” has died at age 83, her family said in a public obituary. No cause of death was given.
