Barely a week goes by without something incredible unfolding in the world around us – and, here at One News Page, it’s our job to try and break down the biggest stories for you in a handy digest of trusted sources and video content. However, amongst some of the bigger stories of the week, you may have missed some truly fascinating titbits – so let’s take a look at what we didn’t know a week ago in brief.
Zimbabwe Coup Threatens Mugabe Stronghold
In an event which many have been referring to as ‘not a coup’, army forces have laid siege to Zimbabwe’s government and have reportedly temporarily unseated leader Robert Mugabe from power – though even now, almost a week on, matters still seem rather murky – and it’s not sure quite where it will all end. Despite his first public appearance since military takeover ▶ made recently, it’s thought, however, that Mugabe will be encouraged to step down or face impeachment, following his house arrest earlier this week.

Trump and Kim Get Personal
While we’re gladly still a way away from any other type of warfare – for now – U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un shared rather harsh words with each other that were resoundly seized upon in the press. Kim’s officials referred to Trump in a press statement as ‘old’ and ‘insane’, to which Trump took personal umbrage on Twitter and backhandedly suggested the Pyongyang dictator was ‘short’ and ‘fat’. More news on this chatter as we get it – and speaking of Twitter…
Sexual Harassment Claims Step Up
As Hollywood continues to reel from further historic allegations doing the rounds – and as Netflix reportedly looks for a way to seal off House of Cards without Kevin Spacey – it’s now the turn of US politics to step up and face its murky past, as US politician Al Franken faces allegations of sexual harassment – with Trump wading into the debate while this very piece is being written!

The Pentagon Makes a Twitter Faux Pas
It’s not always so easy to use Twitter if you’re in a hurry – and while we’re not quite sure how the official US Defense account made the mistake of retweeting anti-Trump and GOP statements earlier this week, we’re sure someone is currently wishing the ground would swallow them whole! Always be careful what you tweet – and re-tweet – as anything you do on the internet lasts a lifetime!

Mario’s Heading for the Big Screen – Again
Yes – despite memories of Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo’s turns as the Mario Bros still reverberating in our minds, Nintendo is reportedly very close to doing a deal with Illumination Studios – the French-based team behind the Minions – to bring the plucky plumber and his friends to the theater once again. Nothing is certain yet – but it could turn the tide on that long-running videogame movie stigma.
