The Week in News: December 30th - January 5thby

2018 is here, and it’s already shaping up to be fairly dramatic – while most of the headlines into early January are being snatched up by the ever-headlining Donald Trump, there are a few stories this past week that may have escaped your attention – but don’t worry! We’re here, as always, to make sure you get your fix of some of the world’s most fascinating news and to break things down for you into digestible pieces.

Could a Book Break the Presidency?
Journalist and author Michael Wolff, who alleges to have based an explosive tell-all regarding the inner workings of the Trump Presidency, has this week claimed a whole host of headlines – as his book, Fire and Fury, saw an unprecedented early release due to overwhelming demand. The book is thought to be based on hundreds of conversations the journalist has had with those close to Trump, most notably his supposed confidante Steve Bannon – as it emerges that there are a number of big secrets – alleged, of course – that could rock the road the Presidency is heading down.

YouTube Controversy for the Paul Brothers
Logan and Jake Paul are two brothers with millions of YouTube subscribers who tune into their regular vlogs – and it’s the former who has fallen under massive scrutiny this week as a video he shared of the filming of a dead body in Japan’s infamous ‘suicide forest’ has been decried by thousands. A petition set up to remove Paul completely from YouTube now stands at over 160,000 signatures at the time of writing – with the YouTuber’s written apology having been rejected by some as self-promoting. His brother, Jake, has also come under fire for releasing a video about his virginity – at a time which many assert is particularly tasteless.

Following a year of destructive year of weather in the form of Harvey and Irma – among others – both sides of the Atlantic are suffering from an extended cold snap and rocky seafaring as a result of continued storms blitzing their way across the globe. When they said winter was coming – they weren’t joking! Travel is set to remain disrupted for thousands – so do keep your eyes peeled.

While this may seem like a fairly short week for news, there’s still plenty going on in the world – though this week may be remembered as one where President Trump claimed perhaps more headlines than any other. Will the trend continue into next week? Let’s wait and see.
