to auschwitz at a protest in front of the holocaust museum still has people talking toight.
erica zucco talked with local jewish leaders to see what they had to say in response.
:39 1:19 the activists calling albuquerque auschwitz were mostly kids who travel the nation protesting abortion.
they had reasons for choosing this museum as their place to protest.
protestors called albuquerque "america's auschwitz" and coined late-term abortions here as albuquerque's holocaust.
that word alone -- holocaust -- upset rabbi harry rosenfeld.
since the 40's ...the word holocaust has been used to describe the mass murders of 6 million people -- most of them jewish -- by the nazis.
auschwitz was a concentration camp where many were killed. It is offensive when someone coopts what's yours.
It's offensive and it's hurtful, especially given the topic and that Jewish religious views on when human life begins are very different than the religious views of these protestors THE protestors belong to an out-of-state group that actually has the world holocaust in their name--- "survivors of the abortion holocaust." they're spending 9 days in albuquerque.
they say they're trying to educate the city on abortion...
saying the number that take place here equate to a genocide.
"we're not soft, but we're truthful -- our young people speak the truth, and then they speak healing." THE RABBI says he supports freedom of speech... but these activists CRUSH OTHER LIBERTIES.
I think that people are trying to impose their religious beliefs on others and that's just plain wrong." SURVIVORS OF THE abortion holocaust says they weren't involved in circulating the late term abortion petition that's gotten more than 20,000 signatures.
but they do support it, and held a town hall meeting about it tonight.
