Kolkata (West Bengal), Nov 11 (ANI): The 23rd edition of Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) kicked off in Kolkata on Friday.
Bollywood actors Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and British Film Director, Michael Winterbottom presided over the inaugural ceremony of the festival.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, actor Kamal Haasan and Director Mahesh Bhatt, were also in attendance during the festival's inauguration ceremony.
The film festival will feature over 140 movies from 65 countries in 19 categories in 12 locations till November 17th.
The festival, which was started in the year 1995, was the culmination of a film society movement that drew its inspiration from the masters of Bengali Cinema - Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak, Mrinal Sen.This year a new competitive category has also been introduced - "Competition on Indian Language Films" - to encourage new ideas and new concepts to pioneer a change in the realm of cinema..
