jessica... come wednesday, students across the country will be walking out of class in response to the school shooting in parkland florida. students will be leaving school as a way to push for gun reform, and honor the lives lost in the shooting that happened nearly a month ago. the organization's website says more than 25- hundred walkouts are planned lasting at least 17 minutes - one minute for each victim. in deforest, superintendent eric runez says students in his district are planning on walking out at 10 am. he says students must have a note prior to the walkout from their parents in order for it to be an excused absense.
"if a student participates and doesnt have a parent excuse, we will treat it just like any other attendence issue where we will contact the parent to let them know that their child is currently unexcused." he says there will also be a police presence at the school as a safety precaution. we're told deforest is just one of several local districts participating including
