Taylor Swift wins four awards at the American Music Awards fans and asks fans to register to vote in the upcoming midterm elections this year.

HEIDI KLUM, AMANDLA STENBERG AND LENNY KRAVITZ ANNOUNCING TAYLOR SWIFT AS WINNER OF ARTIST OF THE YEAR AWARD: "Taylor Swift." "Taylor Swift." "Taylor Swift." Taylor Swift was the big winner at the American Music Awards on Tuesday (October 10), picking up a record fourth Artist of the Year Award along with three other accolades.

During her acceptance speech, Swift acknowledged the power of the people, before asking them to exercise it in the upcoming midterm elections.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) TAYLOR SWIFT, SAYING: "I just wanted to make a mention of the fact that this award and every single award given out tonight were voted on by the people and you know what else is voted on by the people is the mid term elections on November 6, get down and vote, I love you guys." On Sunday (October 7), Swift got political on her Instagram account, also asking her 112 million followers on the platform to vote.

One non-profit site said Swift's call-out contibuted to a huge spike in online registrations, particularly among young people.

The site,, says they recorded 240,000 new registrations since she posted her message Sunday night.

By comparison, It clocked up just 57,000 new registrations in all of August, and 190,000 last month.

Swift also backed two Democratic candidates in her home state of Tennessee, a red state that went for U.S. President Donald Trump by 16 points in 2016.

Trump for one wasn't impressed.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP, SAYING "Let's just say I like Swift's music about 25 percent less than before." It was a stunning move for the country artist turned pop superstar, who has never waded into politics before.

Meanwhile, Swift's one time foe Kanye West is expected at the White House Thursday (October 11).

West, whose Twitter feed is peppered with pro-Trump messages, will speak with the President about crime and jobs in the rapper's hometown of Chicago.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP, SAYING: "He loves what we're doing for African-American jobs, for so many different things, median income as you see, and Kanye's a smart guy, and he sees that." Swift and West famously feuded after he interrupted Swift's acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV video music awards.
