Chelsea Manning has shared a photo of herself recovering from gender affirmation surgery on Twitter.????Formerly known as Bradley Manning before coming out as Transgender in 2013, she was previously sentenced to 35 years in prison after leaking hundreds of thousands of classified documents to WikiLeaks.????In May 2017, her sentence was commuted by then President Barack Obama after 7 years served.????At the time, she said: “I can imagine surviving and living as the person who I am and can finally be in the outside world.
Freedom used to be something that I dreamed of but never allowed myself to fully imagine.”????Now, she has completed her transition and shared a hospital bed photo, Tweeting:????"after almost a decade of fighting—thru prison, the courts, a hunger strike, and thru the insurance company—I finally got surgery this week."????Manning also spoke out on reports of a controversial Trump administration directive to narrow the legal definition of gender in a move some claim is meant to ‘erase’ transgender people, saying: ????“Laws don’t determine our existence—*we* determine our existence—it’s our weapon, our shelter, our energy, our healer, our truth—we will keep moving forward—we will keep fighting—existence is *our* only law.”??
