As the names and photos of some of the victims from the Southern California massacre emerge, questions remain on what triggered a decorated U.S. Marine Corp veteran to kill 12 people at a bar on Wednesday (November 7) night.

SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) Paul Delacourt, FBI: "We are going to pursue the leads that are developed form that evidence to identify any possible motivation and paint a picture of the frame of mind of the subject." The shooter, 28 year old Ian David Long was found dead and police say he likely shot himself.

He was in the Marine Corps from 2008 to 2013, reaching the rank of corporal and serving as a machine gunner in Afghanistan.

The Ventura County Sheriff said it was possible that Long had suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Police say he appeared to have shot at random, using only a handgun.

Included in the dead, a sheriff's deputy.

SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean: "He went in there to save people and made the ultimate sacrifice." Many others were wounded in the attack.

Witnesses describe a chaotic scene.

SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) WITNESS: "All of a sudden you hear the bang bang of gunshots, and it started going crazy…" SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) WITNESS: "I watched an officer get shot in front of me.

I had to help drag him to…throw him in the back of a cop car." It was the third mass shooting in the United States in under two weeks, including 11 worshippers killed at a synagogue in Pittsburgh.
