Obamacare Enrollment Down 11 Percent From Last Year

((VO-Affordable Care Act YT))??New numbers released by the Trump Administration show that enrollment in Obamacare is down 11 percent compared to last year.????((VO-Doctors))??The Hill reports that in the first five weeks of this year’s sign up period approximately 3.2 million people opted into Obamacare plans.

This number is down from the 3.6 million that signed up by this time last year.????((VO-People on Computers))??The number of new customers signing up is also down 17 percent, compared to last year.

????((VO-People at Doctors))??There is just over one week left to take part in Obamacare for 2019 and according to The Washington Post, experts say the final numbers may be even lower at the end of the enrollment period.????((VO-Doctors Office/Money))??There may be several reasons for this year’s decrease in enrollment.

The New York Times notes that Congress eliminated the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate earlier this year - a tax penalty for people who neglected to get health insurance.

People may be opting out of health coverage now that they will no longer be fined.????((VO-People Working))??The Times also likens the drop in enrollment due to the fact that more Americans are employed, meaning they’re covered by their employers.????????
