JEDRZEJCZYK AND SHEVCHENKO STARING EACH OTHER DOWN STORY: UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway and challenger Brian Ortega both made weight Friday (December 7) for this weekend's main event of UFC 231 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.
The Americans were originally slated to fight at UFC 226 in July but Holloway was pulled from the bout during fight week for exhibiting concussion-like symptoms. The 27-year-old Holloway (19-3), a kickboxer, has won 12 consecutive bouts since losing a decision to Conor McGregor in 2013 and earned finishes in nine of those contests.
Jiu-jitsu fighter Ortega (14-0, 1 No Contest), also 27-years-old, is undefeated and has shown an ability to knockout his opponents.
The co-headlining matchup will be for the vacant women's flyweight title between Valentina Shevchenko (15-3), of Kyrgyzstan and Peruvian descent, and Poland's Joanna Jedrzejczyk (15-2).
