Former president george h.w.
Bush has been laid to rest.
Now some are looking back on his life as a father, and as a president.
Jeff hubalek remembers that one moment while he was in the navy that changed his life.
"as i approached george h.w bush and he was getting ready to put out his hand to shake mine.
He said hello sailor how are you, i said thank you sir pleasure to meet you.
Being thousands of miles away and having a man like that, the president of the united states, it was truly amazing."
As jeff watched the funeral service, he could'nt help but think back to that moment.
"watching all the services on tv, it tugged on my heart strings because i knew i had a little smidgen a time with that man."
The president was on board the guided missile cruiser the uss belknap where jeff was stationed.
He was there for the three days for the malta summit between the president and soviet leader michail gorbechev.
Jeff was able to show me pictures along with another historical document.
"so this is the famous magazine?
That's the famous magazine, i've held onto that for twenty nine years.
It's a 1989 issue december issue of time magazine, its got the full article of the malta summit that happened.and there's the picture of president george h.w bush and soviet leader michail gorbechev."
At the time, having the president of the united states on board to jeff and the crew was beyond exciting.
But their was no room for error, everything had to be perfect.
"everybody had to have their a game on, everything just had to be tip top shape.
Though the malta summit itself was historic, jeff will never forget his moment with number 41.
"that memory of him being onboard my war vessel the uss belknap cg 26 guided missile cruiser that will stand with me foas long as live.
