Why “idiot” google search term elicits Trump images
ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Democratic Representative Zoe Lofgren asked Google Chief Executive Sundar Pichai on Tuesday during a House Judiciary Committee hearing that when she googles "idiot", an image of President Trump comes up and Pichai explains why.
"We provide search today for any time you type in a keyword, we as Google, we have crawled... copies billions of web pages in our index and we take the keyword and we match them against webpages and rank them... how other people are using it and based on that...we try to rank and find the best results for that query," Pichai told the House panel.
The technology company has been under fire on Capitol Hill over issues including why it delayed disclosing vulnerabilities with its Google+ social network, whether it will restart its search engine in China and if it is biased against Republicans.
In written testimony to the House Judiciary Committee made public on Monday, CEO Sundar Pichai said he led the company "without political bias."
