3&lt;it was a soggy start for some in 2018.february's heavy rainfall flooded many areas including homes along the tippecanoe river in carroll county.nearly five inches of rain put houses under water and led to evacuations and rescues.in jasper county, a levee breach left homes under water.the flooding prompted governor eric holcomb to declare a state of emergency for many areas including carroll, jasper and white counties..in june, tragedy struck when a chair lift carrying four people collapsed and fell down a steep embankment into lake freeman.

Angela elder was pronounced dead at the scene.ernie elder jr., tyra klink and kris klink were severly injured.according to a local funeral home's website, tyra klink eventually died from her injuries.in august, a fatal hit and run on us 52 claimed the lives of two people.william "eric" peacock was killed and kimberly mcdole died from her injuries a few weeks later.yariel butler was charged with failure to stop after an accident resulting in death and failure to stop after an accident resulting in serious injury.she was also charged with operating while intoxicated.it's been a tough year for cass county.in september, two children died in a house fire on montgomery street in logansport.then, in october, a three-year-old boy died after accidentally shooting himself in a treen street home.in november, two logansport teens were killed in a car accident in kokomo.

Later that month, two men were killed in a hit and run near walton.

Police are still looking for whoever is responsible.one day later, six people including four chidied i south of logansport.the tragedies prompted to community to come together.

They created a fundraiser selling shirts that read #wearecasscounty.all the money went to victims of the tragedies.after years of construction mess in greater lafayette, several major projects wrapped up in 2018.

State street and restore sagamore projects reached substaintial completion.the i-65 expansion and sagamore parkway bridge over the wabash were also finished.> 3 another big project to wrap up this year was the bridge over the wildcat
