Tourists Flee Resort Islands as Thailand Braces for Tropical Storm Pabuk

Thousands of tourists have left the Thai resort islands of Koh Phangan, Koh Tao and Koh Samui as Tropical Storm Pabuk approaches.

The storm was set to bring torrential rain and 20-foot waves to the resorts, officials said on Thursday, January 3.

Pabuk is the first tropical storm in about three decades to hit the island region outside of monsoon season.

It was forecast to hit Koh Phangan, Koh Tao and Samui from Thursday to Saturday, January 5.

Officials and fishermen in Thailand’s southern provinces were also bracing for flash floods and mudslides.
