ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION It may be only three days into the New Year but on Thursday (January 3) it was time for the red carpet to roll out for the upcoming Golden Globes, which are held at the Beverly Hilton hotel and are the first major awards show in the season.
Hosts Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg kicked the rolling of the red carpet off and spoke about their feelings on hosting the three hour live show watched around the world.
"It's absolutely in a couple of days, it's a frantic pace, a really really hypercreative pace.
We're still in the midst of putting the show together so yes, it's global, it's frantic, and very very exciting," said Oh.
Unlike previous seasons, this year's awards appear to be dominated by films which have already enjoyed success at the box office ('Crazy Rich Asians', 'Black Panther', 'BlacKkKlansman'), rather than a slew of films only a few insiders have had the chance to see.
"It's exciting from a writer's perspective because you can reference specific things from the films and people will know what you're talking about," said Samberg, adding "It's a lot more like what awards shows used to be, actually." The proceedings will also include Idris Elba's daughter Isan, who has been chosen to be the Golden Globes Ambassador for the 2019 ceremony.
After being photographed outside by the red carpet, Elba told Reuters inside "I've definitely been around this atmosphere but being in it is so different.
I get to see a glimpse into his (Idris Elba's) life." The Golden Globes are set to be broadcast at 8pm EST or 5pm PST on NBC on January 6.
