Update on a fatal fire that killed a former firefighter.

Good evening once again.

We are getting our first look at the suspect charged in connection to a fire in oneonta....that killed a former firefighter.

We brought you the news conference live at the top of the hour.

We have newschannel two's zhane caldwell in oneonta tonight with the update.

Chief douglas brenner oneonta police department terrence truitt, 34 of oneonta charged with arson city of oneonta police chief douglas brenner and fire chief patrick pidgeon will hold a press conference wednesday, january 2, 2019 at 5:00pm to provide an update on the investigation into the december 29, 2018 fire at 5 walling ave which took the life of mr. john heller.

City of oneonta mayor gary herzig, who will also be in attendance, has stated, "john heller, who lost his life in this tragic early morning fire, was a true hero.

Our hearts go out to his family and friends.

Since that first call early saturday morning, our firefighters, uniformed police officers, and detectives have worked tirelessly, in partnership, under difficult physical and emotional circumstances.

We can all be very proud of their professionalism."
