'Gone too soon': Lake Mills firefighters, friends and family honor Capt. Truman during funeral

Fallen lake mills fire captain chris truman has been laid to rest tonight... after a weekend filled with tributes in his honor.

Rose schmidt is here to show us how his friends and family are hoping he's remembered.

Lake mills firefighters say captain chris truman died as he lived -- by sacrificing himself for someone else.

Today -- they spoke of his infectious laugh, his contagious passion for the fire service... and his willingness to do whatever was necessary to help someone in need.

Bagpipe nats it's a day filled with listening... 8:14:30 it's amazing that his life could be honored in this way 35 honoring... 8:14:37 not only the sacrifice that brought us all here 40 and remembering captain chris truman of the lake mills fire department.

8:14:41 he was more than just a firefighter 45 but captain truman was off duty new years eve... when he stopped on the side of the belt line... to help a woman whose car had spun out of control.... he was hit by a car and died.

8:18:32 no doubt in my mind that had he survived this 36 that he would have done it again without question 38 that's just who he was 39 knowledge of his sacrifice is what's getting police chief mick selck through this week.

8:11:12 i was honored to know him, it was an honor to be his friend 15 chief selck spoke about that honor during the services for captain truman on sunday at lake mills high school... reverend dave sobek presided... and made sure his sense of humor carried through the ceremony.

18:01 chris's life was filled with joy 03 he laughed, he'd be very upset with all we did today 07 because it was far too much as far as he was concerned i'm sure 10 the most emotional and powerful moment came in the form of echoes throughout the service... and the police scanner... 8:17:37 the final page is always moving when you hear that name called and knowing that there's going to be no response 43 it's alwasy tough 44 but while he can't respond verbally... his memory is serving as a reminder of a different kind to those who knew him best... 8:20:49 i honor chris but i need to step up my game in life 52 and i'm going to be a better emt myself 56 8:12:36 i truly believe the best way to honor captain truman is by being a good person and helping out those around you 43 after losing his selfless collague and friend... chief selck is finding comfort in a letter his eleven year old son barrett wrote to him... and hopes others will too.

8:13:54 dad i know that you're in pain 56 and so am i 59 it's sad i know, but we can all get through this as a team 04 we will all remember chris truman as a caring loving and gentle and helpful hero 10 police chief selck is asking you police chief selck is asking you to pay it forward and do a good deed for someone... and says that is the best way to honor captain truman's memory.

A good way to keep his memory alive - thanks, rose.
