Crowd Celebrates Near Political Party HQ After Presidential Election Results Announced
Crowds celebrated outside the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS) headquarters in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), on January 10, after Felix Tshisekedi was declared winner of the December 30 presidential election.
The People’s Party for Reconstruction and Democracy (PPRD), the country’s ruling party, accepted the results of the election; however, election observers from France, Belgium, and the DRC’s Catholic church said that the official results were inconsistent with their observations, which indicated the Engagement for Citizenship and Development party candidate, Martin Fayulu, was likely the winner.
