Honduran Migrant Caravan Swells En Route To U.S. Border
According to a report by Reuters, on Tuesday, a new US bound caravan of Honduran migrants has grown to nearly 1,000 people as it nears the Guatemalan border, while President Donald Trump seized on news of the group to garner support for his proposed border wall.
Honduran Deputy Foreign Minister Nelly Jerez reportedly said that a group of between 800 and 1,000 people were headed toward the Agua Caliente border crossing into Guatemala.
Reuters reports that television footage on Tuesday showed groups of mostly young men, carrying bags of belongings out of the notoriously violent city of San Pedro Sula and trying to catch up with the caravan that left the same city just the day before.
A new migrant caravan, the first of this year but the fourth since the phenomenon began, crossed from Honduras, reached Guatemala city and left the next early morning ,towards the Mexican border.
