In Wake of Commons Vote, France Triggers Its No-Deal Brexit Plan

Saying he regretted the decision of the House of Commons to reject Theresa May’s Brexit deal, French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced on January 17 he would be triggering France’s no-deal Brexit plan.The likelihood of a no-deal Brexit had become, he said, “less and less improbable.” The government, he said, had a responsible to ensure that France was ready to protect the interests of its citizens.Philippe said the plan had been in preparation since April 2018, and included legislative and judicial measures to ensure “no interruption” to the rights of citizens, or their businesses.
