Decisions about whether or not these roads are bad enough to cancel classes... right now... there are more than 130 school districts that have cancelled classes this morning here in south-central wisconsin... so it's safe to say, nearly everything is closed.
Many of those districts serve large areas.
For example... middleton and cross plains share a school district serving both suburban and rural areas.
We talked to the district's director of communications..
Who says there are times when the streets might be well- plowed in the city of middleton itself... but are poor elsewhere... so they'd delay or cancel school rather than put students and teachers in harms way.
The day before a storm... area superintendents and the national weather service talk on several conference calls about conditions.
If it looks like we'll end up on the high end of the snow forecast and if it is likely to still be snowing during the morning commute... they usually call off school.
But like today... that didn't happen for many districts.
The u-w is perhaps the only school in our area still holding class today.
The madison campus just announced on twitter within the last hour they are expecting classes to go on as usual.
As for madison college... they are closed right now... but will open at one.
Thank you, josh and christina.
