Trump Likely To Recognize Opposition Leader As Venezuelan President
According to CNN, US President Donald Trump is expected to recognize Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido as the legitimate president of Venezuela.
Guaido is set to take the oath of office as early as Wednesday.
Two weeks ago, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was inaugurated for a second term.
The US, dozens of other countries, and the Venezuelan opposition has called the inauguration illegitimate.
Venezuelans are planning to take to the streets in nationwide protests on Wednesday, and the White House is keeping an eye on the protests, as well as Maduro's response.
On Tuesday, Vice President Mike Pence issued a message of support to Venezuelans, telling them they had the "unwavering support of the United States."
