Pakistanis Hold Pro-War and Pro-Peace Demonstrations Amid Escalating Tensions With India

Pakistani protesters held demonstrations in multiple regions of the country on February 28, with some groups calling for war with India over a series of clashes in Kashmir, while others called for restraint.

Radio Free Europe shared this footage, which they said shows protesters demonstrating in the Swat District, Khyber District and the city of Peshawar.

The Swat and Khyber demonstrators, seen until about 40 seconds into the video, are waving Pakistan flags and burning an effigy of India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

The Peshawar protesters are holding signs calling for peaceful deescalation.

Tension between India and Pakistan were heightened following a series of air attacks in which fighter jets from each nation were reported to have been shot down and an Indian pilot was captured by Pakistani forces.
