Iranian Women Remove Hijabs in Public Ahead of International Women's Day
Women in Iran walked in public without hijabs to protest the compulsory hijab law in the country ahead of International Women’s Day, activists said.
The videos were released around the 40th anniversary of Iranian women protesting against the compulsory hijab law for the first time, soon after the Iranian Revolution.
In 2018, footage of Vida Mohaved’s protest against hijab laws was shared widely, spurring other protests against the law.
Movahed was arrested for the protest and later released.
Footage here was shared by Masih Alinejad, an Iranian living in in New York, who has been posting videos that show Iranian women removing their hijabs in defiance of Iran’s laws.
