House Debates Resolution Aimed at Mueller Report's Release

The House of Representatives began debating a resolution on Wednesday that would encourage Attorney General William Barr to publicly release special counsel Robert Mueller's completed report.

We should note this isn't legally binding — even if it's passed, it couldn't force Barr to release any more information than current DOJ rules and the law require.  In the resolution, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler acknowledges that parts of the report may need to remain secret from the public but asks that they still be shared with Congress.

Mueller's expected to finish his investigation and report in the coming days.

House Democrats insist the full release of his findings would help speed up ongoing congressional investigations into the president's alleged connections to Russia.

But Democrats are expecting a fight, and potentially a legal battle, to secure materials from the report.

The Justice Department has recently signaled it may share less information with Congress than it has in some recent cases.
