Thousands Join Climate Action March in Brussels
Tens of thousands of youth demonstrators marched through the streets of Brussels on Friday, March 15, joining a worldwide “strike” demanding stronger policies to address climate change.
This footage from Greenpeace shows protesters moving through the Belgian capital, carrying signs and chanting.
Police said 30,000 people attended the march, while Greenpeace estimated that up to 35,000 people took part.
The “school strike” movement for climate change action has spread since August 2018, when Greta Thunberg, a Swedish 16-year-old, skipped school and began protesting outside the Swedish parliament.
On March 15, protests began in New Zealand, Australia and the South Pacific, before spreading to Asia, Africa, and Europe later in the day.
