With the race to be the first country with broad 5G wireless network capabilities being waged mostly between the U.S. and China…????...the Trump administration is set to announce major funding to ensure U.S. wireless companies are the first to achieve it.????Axios reports that President Trump is set to announce a plan of $20 billion in subsidies to wireless companies to add to fiber-optic infrastructure.????The news outlet says the funds will be spent over a 10-year span to build-up broadband in unserved, rural areas.????While U.S. companies led the charge on 4G, experts point to 5G which is expected to be 100 times faster than the current technology…????...as a potential economic windfall for the companies and countries that are able to build that network first.????For the announcement, Trump is expected to be joined by FCC Chairman Ajit Pai…????...who, according to Axios, will announce the largest-ever auction of airwaves for commercial use by his department.????Pai told Axios that the 5 gigahertz of airwaves the FCC is making available for 5G use…????...make up more airwaves than are currently being used by all mobile users combined.
