Curiosity Rover Takes First Bite Of ‘Clay-Bearing Unit’

NASA’s Curiosity rover is still kicking around Mars, and this week achieved a major milestone.

The car-sized device recently got its first taste of the long-awaited “clay-bearing unit,” a region within the Gale crater on the Red Planet.

After drilling a piece of bedrock on April 6, Curiosity delivered the sample to its internal mineralogy lab four days later.
