A staunch critic of a system he says is rigged to make the rich richer, the Vermont senator had an adjusted gross income of over half a million in 2018 and over a million in both 2016 and 2017, respectively.
In a statement accompanying the returns, Sanders said he had been "fortunate" having come from a family that lived paycheck to paycheck.
Sanders reporting paying a 26 percent effective tax rate on his 2018 income.
The release of his returns, like those of many other high-profile Democrats, comes as critics fault President Donald Trump for refusing to do the same.
