Macron Vows to Have Notre Dame Rebuilt Within Five Years
French President Emmanuel Macron vowed to have the near-devastated Notre Dame cathedral Paris rebuilt within five years, in an address to the nation on April 16.
During the live address, streamed over Twitter, Macron praised the emergency services for their efforts to contain the massive fire, which raged through the historic cathedral on April 15.
“Every single person gave what they could give”, Macron said.
“It is up to us to change this disaster into an opportunity to come together, having deeply reflected on what we have been and what we have to be and become better than we are.
It is up to us to find the thread of our national project.” The blaze raged through the historic building on Monday, destroying its roof and causing its main spire to partially collapse.
The incident sparked an outpouring of international support.
