Warriors weekend is a non profit corporation dedicated to the support of american veterans..
With special care and attention to those wounded in the global war on terrorism.
They are currently working the annual field of honor, but need your help.
Abbi rocha is joining us live this morning with our story.
On may 4th this field in victoria will be hallowed ground..
Covered in thousands of american flags honoring veterans from across the nation..
Saturday morning bright and early we can all gather over there and we need lots of volunteers each flag..
Sponsored and labeled..
In preparation for the event warriors weekend is in need of volunteers to help post flags, label bows, and paint pickets.
We are going to poke about 2,000 sticks of rebar into the ground.
The rebar will support american flags... meticulously measured out.
People start getting excited when they see the rebar going up, it actually looks pretty because we do it in such neat rows and columns.
650 warriors come into town from all over the nation... will have a flag in the field sponsored in his or her honor.
300 sponsorships are still needed.
We always make our total but we always need people to step up and sponsor flags for these warriors.
Colonel mike petrash says the field of honor gives veterans a way to be around others they can relate to who fight a similar battle when coming home..
They yearn to be around their compatriots, they want to be around those military folks who understand typically what they're going through right now.
The thousands of flags unite the veterans, but also volunteers.
The warriors love coming here, and seeing their flag in the field it touches them on a very deep level.
For volunteers, it's a reminder that freedom is not free.
We are probably the only ones in the nation who do it to this scale and the way we do it.
