Chicago’s Top Prosecutor Under Investigation for Handling of Jussie Smollett Case
All charges may have been dropped in the Jussie Smollett case but the investigation in Chicago continues.????This one however, centers around Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx, who according to the Chicago Sun Times has been subpoenaed…????...as a special counselor will review her involvement in the “Empire” actor’s case.????In January, Smollett alleged that he was the victim of a homophobic and racial attack on the streets of Chicago.????While investigating, Chicago police say the singer staged the incident.????Smollett was then charged with 16 counts of disorderly conduct for filing a false report.????However, charges against the actor were eventually dropped in March.??????Foxx recused herself from the case when it was discovered she communicated with one of Smollett’s family members…????...at a time when Smollett was being treated as the victim of a hate crime.????After the case had shifted to Smollett allegedly staging the attack... ????...Chicago’s WLS-TV obtained text messages from Foxx to her staff that called Smollett a “washed up celeb”.????Sheila O’Brien, a retired appellate judge, filed the motion for a special prosecutor…????...saying Foxx’s handling of the case was “plagued with irregularity”.????The Chicago Tribune reports that Smollett has also been given a “notice to appear” prompting questions as to whether or not he will testify in the hearing.
