Australian PM Scott Morrison Hit With Egg on Campaign Trail

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison was hit on the head with an egg on Tuesday, May 7, at an event in Albury, New South Wales, ahead of the federal election on May 18.

This footage, shot by a Sky News reporter, shows the moment the egg bounces off the Prime Minister’s head.

The egg did not break.

An elderly woman was knocked over during the incident; Morrison could be seen helping her to her feet.

In a statement emailed to media, New South Wales Police said a 24-year-old woman was arrested and charged with common assault and possessing prohibited drugs.

“The Prime Minister’s security team quickly detained the woman, and in the act of restraining her, a 70-year-old woman was knocked to the ground.

No injuries were reported.

During a search of the woman, police located cannabis.” Morrison had been chatting with attendees at the Country Women’s Association (CWA) state conference during a break when the incident took place.

Following the incident, Morrison tweeted, saying his concern was “for the older lady who was knocked off her feet.” “I helped her up and gave her a hug.

Our farmers have to put up with these same idiots who are invading their farms and their homes.

We will stand up to thuggery whether it’s these cowardly activists who have no respect for anyone, or militant unionists standing over small businesses and their employees on work sites.” Opposition leader Bill Shorten condemned the incident, calling it “disgraceful behaviour." In March, Queensland senator Fraser Anning was also egged by a young man while speaking at an event in Victoria.
