California Highway Patrol said crashes on Highway 99 near Garner Lane have more than doubled in the past year.

There are new details today on the fatal crash on highway 99 north of eaton road..

I'm debbie cobb..

The chp identified the man drving the hyundai santa fe that struck the back of the big rig late friday afternoon..

25-year old sergio 'de la cruz' received major injuries when the chp says he failed to see the traffic stopped in front of him on highway 99 and hit the rear of the big rig.

The 26-year old woman in the front seat..

Was killed..

She was not wearing a seatbelt.

Her name has not been released.

A two-year old in the back seat received minor injuries.

The big rig driver..

43-year old robert johnson of redding was not injured.

### it's more common than not to hear about a crash on highway 99 in north chico..

Action news now reporter christina vitale is live near the highway and spoke with people about these all too frequent crashes..

Just last week there was a deadly crash just behind me near garner lane.

I spoke with people who say the traffic causes a lot of problems. i know people who live over on the other side and they have to 20 minutes 30 minutes earlier just for work chp told action news now the number of crashes on hwy 99 near garner lane has more than doubled in the past year.

It went from 9 to 22.

I spoke with a long time 99 north traveler who told me about what he sees on the highway.

I've seen the repercussions of the accidents you come upon them after they've happened its quite frequently towards the los molinos area and corning there's always head ons around there because people try to pass each other right at the end.

Cal trans told action news now some of the traffic on 99 north stems from trucks hauling debris to a disposal site in anderson.

Cal trans requested funding from cal oes for a traffic study at "this" intersection, to see if any safety modifcations can be made.
